Winter-road budget rising by $300K

The amount of money the province earmarks for the construction and maintenance of a winter-road network in the far North has gone up by $300,000.
“I am particularly pleased that it has increased to $5 million this year to reflect increased construction and maintenance costs,” Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle said Thursday in an email.
More than 3,100 kilometres of temporary roads are built by remote First Nations over frozen swamps and waterways.
During the winter-road season, which usually lasts until the end of March, about 30 reserves are able to truck in heavy supplies like construction materials and fuel.
