Message: possible solution for transport of chromite/nickel

GM,

Great idea to run 2 pipes side by side, one for Ni concentarte slurry and the other for chromite slurry.

To avoid potential consequenial damage due to accidents in one pipe on the other, they could be separated by a buffer zone, noting that these slurry pipes are usually low pressure systems, hence if accidents occur they would be leaks rather than explosion (these slurries are not combustible material).

This is an area where NOT and KWG can combine their talents to achieve their common goals. The NS slurry pipes for the RoF are very short compared to the gas and oil pipelines, some 300km compared to many times the width of Canada (e.g. the distance from E coast to W coast is in the thousands of km). The slurry pipe in NOT original proposal has a length of ~100km. So, this NS run is about 3 times the length. Not much of a difference in the big scheme of things.

It may be possible to share one pipe (for both Ni and chromite) if they don't mind the washing in between to avoid cross contamination. However, having 2 pipes would be a good idea anyway...i.e. one could be used as back-up for the other, in case one is down for maintenance.

There are quite a few companies in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada which specialize in slurry pipes. So, jobs for the loacl firms and people.
