Ontario Strengthening Local Economy, Creating Jobs

September 24, 2014

Ontario is helping the Wauzhushk Onigum Nation move forward on its plans to establish a community development centre that will support local economic growth and create nine jobs.

With a $490,000 investment from the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), the centre will provide a flexible and adaptable environment that can accommodate both short- and long-term community and economic development activities, including leasable space for businesses and professionals, and a versatile space for meetings and events.

Working with First Nations partners to build economic opportunities is part of the government’s plan to invest in people, build modern infrastructure and support a dynamic and innovative business climate.

Quick Facts

Since 2003, the NOHFC has invested approximately $953 million in 6,200 projects in Northern Ontario, creating or sustaining more than 23,800 jobs.In Kenora-Rainy River, the NOHFC has invested approximately $ 1.7 million in 501 projects, creating or sustaining nearly 2,689 jobs since 2003.
