Proposals from deep pockets are not anything to sneeze at. These big guys don't submit proposal just for the fun of it. This formal paperwork for putting down the intention in black and white. Usually, the "deal", in principle, has been previously agreed upon by the top guys on both sides, over e.g. dinner (as in the case Burger King and Tim Hortons) or sometimes just over coffee. The rest is for the accountants to sort out (check out the negotiation session over dinner with billionaire Edward Lewis in Pretty Woman movie, starring Gere and Roberts, lol).

Even patent pending would be worth a bundle, because you are already ahead of others. The details of the patents submitted to the Patent Office are confidential (nobody would want to tip off the info to potential competitors).

Similarly, it's a normal practice not to name the backers who have put in proposals due to many reasons, including "competitive" reason, confidentiality.
