Message: Last Nites show on ROF on You Tube

Had a chance to watch, on You Tube, the 12 May TVO video interview with Steve Paikin (The Agenda). Link below,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pwMshhnX0o

Some random notes on the interview for your amusement.

4 politicians: Gravelle (Lib), Fedeli (PC), Bisson (NDP), Northey (Green)

At the beginning of the interview, the host gave a warning Gravelle... not to take too long giving long winded answers due to the time constraint. It was a direct, frank, but quite hilarious. You would need to watch this part to appreciate it.

- Gravelle: Despite the warning he was at his usuall form, providing long winded answers, and talking with his hands. Lots of repeated statement (yes, he used "do it right" more than once). Nothing was really new. The $1B is "locked in" (whatever this means) and he still want the Feds to come willingly to match the fund without any conditions, e.g. detaled proposals (my reading) attached. Still mentioned that CLF is still very interested in the project (where this impression came from, in view of (a) CLF announcement that their proposed $3.3B RoF project is postponed indefinitely, and (b) CLF is broke and the current management is fight for survival with Casablanca (Casablanca wants selloff of all international holdings to get the cash, and to focus only in US operations) and at least 3 class-action law suits.). Should keep the current "momentum" going, since the Agreement with the FN is in place, the $1B is committed by the Lib.

- Fedeli: He seemed to be the most knowledgeable person in the group with 4 visits during the last few years (latest was last winter). The NOT camp (shared with CLF) was a vibrant place with hundreds of workers, now desolated with about a dozen people. CLF has packed up and left the camp. His remark on Gravelle's "momentum": going backward.

- Bisson: He mentioned the Agreement with the FN negotiated by Bob Rae and "the other fellow" (Yacabucci name was mentioned a few times. In fact he would be expected to know the name of this high-ranking judge). Nothing news from Bisson, just the usual attack of government plans and promisses. Did not seem to have any NDP concrete plan for the RoF.

Not sure if I heard it right, but where did Bisson get the $3B for cost for the RR?

- Northey: He's, as rep of the Green Party, is 100% against the oil sands. Mining the RoF is much better, but you have "to do it right". This is not an endorment since his understanding is that there are no laws (what?) to address chromite (what about the EA process, as if this is not tough enough for the miners?). Interesting comments (but not new): chromite is not going anywhere, hence it would be Ok to take time to study (study and study). Besides, the value of chromite would go up as time goes on (our treasure chest, better than gold, forever in the ground). RR is better than roads, saving of $150M/year on maintenance. This is per year for many many years. Sounds good so far, until he threw in the electric train idea. Some interesting comments about electric freight trains:

Forgot about his opening statement: " it's a nightmare to get roads and rails into the RoF, the pristine swamp"...Note: the last bit is mine). This fellow does not appear to know much about creating wealth for the people. The main job seems to be blocking of all development. there is something called "sustainable/responsible development", and of course you have "to do it right". Some will puke if this phrase is repeated too often.

Just my impression. Want to share yours?
