I am wondering what might be in that Black Horse mineral mix. We know there is chromite, with iron and chrome in good amounts, and NOT has some platinum and (I think) rhodium quite nearby. The South African chromites have platinum. What do we have? Assays for these metals are expensive and take time, so there could be stuff we haven't yet heard about.
While trying to find any reference to low temperature chromite smelting, I found a method of adding sodium chloride to pelletised ore, to free platinum in temperatures lower than those in an electrical arc furnace. Might the new method be something of this sort? Possibly an accidental discovery while testing methods to separate other stuff, such as PGMs, from the chromite. Perhaps other material such as waste, or slag, separated out also, making a more cost effective way of enriching the ore.
Purely speculation, not backed by any particular information
