Essar Algoma does not produce stainless steel (they would have no use for chomite now but I don't know what their plans are for the future) but the parent company, Essar Steel, is a world wide producer of steel (based in India) and has been on a North American buying spree for the last few years. They also bought an iron mine in Minnesota at the same time as they purchased Algoma Steel. Once the Concentrator and Pellet Plant is completed and producing (in a couple years) they will be supplying pellets to the Algoma facility.... which I think has ruffled Cliffs feathers, as they will be losing Essar Algoma (2 million tons / year) as a customer.
