The Shaw Dome Ni-Cu-(PGE) sulphide deposits conform to the geological model of the Western Australian volcanic-peridotite associated (VPA) deposits, with respect to geological setting, metal concentrations and mineral associations. Sproule et al (2003) point out that the komatiites hosting economic concentrations of Ni are of the AUK variety and appear to be locally contaminated with crustal rocks. According to the deposit model the massive sulphide bodies (Type I) are predominantly located at the base of komatiite sequences in contact with the footwall rocks. A volumetrically larger blanket of net-textured and disseminated sulphides overlies the massive sulphide portion of the deposits. Approximately 75-90% of the economic value of this deposit type is related to the Ni-Cu content with Au and PGE values contributing 10-25% of the value as smelter credits before deductions and other charges.

The South Zone of the Langmuir # 2 deposit extends onto this property. A historical inferred resource of about 181,400 t grading 1.5% Ni is thought to remain in the South Zone. It is estimated that approximately 100,000 tonnes of this historical inferred resource resides on the Starfire property.

The exploration initiatives of Kenrich-Eskay in 2003-04 were prematurely terminated leaving four conductors spatially associated with the South Zone (east of the tailings pond) untested. This area has a high potential for the discovery of additional zones of massive, net-textured and disseminated nickeliferous sulphide mineralization.

The property is considered as an “advanced exploration property” and has sufficient merit to warrant further exploration expenditures. Potential economic mineralization targets include:

(a) an existing inferred resources in the South Zone, as shown in Figure 8, which should be reevaluated in light of the current metal prices;

(b) four untested HLEM anomalies east of the tailings pond, which coincide with airborne electromagnetic conductors.
