"A growing global scarcity of premium high-grade nickel sulphide resources with genuine exploration upside combined with the rapidly shrinking mid-tier global nickel sector means that Western Areas is a rare beast these days," RBC Capital Markets analyst Lee Bowers said in a report on Tuesday.

The Perth-based company said the revised mineral estimate at the deposit, discovered last year, was now 1.05 million tonnes at an average grade of 7.2 percent nickel, containing 75,140 tonnes of nickel.
