The Port of Prince Rupert is spending $16 million to build a maintenance and warehouse complex at the intersection of Scott Road and Highway 16.

The announcement on Monday morning stated the construction will begin in two weeks. There will be two buildings, one that houses the maintenance facility and the other will provide warehouse and storage space. The current maintenance facility needed to be relocated as DP World acquired the building as part of the expansion of the Fairview Container Terminal.

The Coast Tsimshian Northern Contractors Alliance (CTNCA), in partnership with IDL Project, have been awarded the contract to design and construct the facility.

Site clearing is scheduled for the week of Sept. 6. Starting late-October scheduled blasting will interrupt road access to Scott Road and Highway 16 for 15 minutes per day for a one month period.

Minimal impact to the public is expected during the project, stated the press release. The port will inform the public once the blasting schedule is finalized.

The project is expected to be complete in September 2017.
