Members of the Lax Kw'alaams Band unanimously rejected a $1.14 billion benefits agreement during a band member meeting in the community on Tuesday.

Two members who attended the meeting, Malcolm Sampson and Donnie Wesley, reported that all of the more than 180 eligible voters at the meeting raised their hands in opposition to approving the Pacific NorthWest LNG terminal and Prince Rupert Gas Transmission project, citing concerns about the environmental impact of the terminal and its location on Lelu Island.

Meetings regarding the benefits agreement continue tonight in Prince Rupert, where band members in the community will be able to vote for or against, before wrapping up with meetings in Vancouver on May 11 and 12.
