I agree with you mikebanks,

When focussing on oil only, the current state is just temporary. Expectation are that fuel consumption in North America will rise by 35% by 2020. Total consumption of china and India will rise even more and is expected to be equal to the north american consumtion in 2020. When looking at reserves it will become more challanging to find new resources to keep up with this demand, and to extract hydrocarbon out of the ground will thereby become more expensive as well. The only way this can happen is by a continueing increase in oil prices over the next decades.
