I sent you a note using this same feature - did you receive it? If you did then I believe you will find that either the user you are trying to reach does not have an e-mail address identified in their profile or they have a typo in it. I have found no indication of a way within a profile to limit who can send you direct contacts, so I will assume one of the 2 above issues probably exist.
