How can any form of government be called Democratic, when it receives less than 50% of the citizens vote?
Here in Canada, our democratic voting system leaves a lot to be desired. Imagine; the largest turnout to vote, peaked in 1958 at 79.4% of those eligible to vote and the winning party managed to get less than 50% of those votes. That means the majority of the people did not approve of the government. Even in 1968, the year that Pierre Eliot Trudeau became the leader, he received less than 35% support of the people and yet he saw fit to write the Charter and make it law.
And we, the people, allow this to happen.
"We live in interesting times"
Good Luck to all!
