Hi Cockerel:

I assume you mean by government involvement that you are wondering what your tax exposure would be if you exchanged your home for gold or silver. Since you live in Alberta, Canada there is no tax on the capital gain resulting from the sale of your principal residence so wouldn't that answer your question?
