Forgive me if I misunderstood, but I thought the object of purchasing stocks was to make money.

The only way the company can affect the movement of the share price positively is in its ability to improve either its bottom line or to show the market that it will be profitable going forward.

Its the market that moves the price and when you buy and sell, that is exactly what you are trying to do. When the stock moves, in my book that is called "manipulation".
