I will say something about Detroit - that place has been going severely downhill since the late 60's; it took one heck of a long run of higher earners and tax payers fleeing the city to finally drive it to its knees. I would have expected this long, long ago.

So, most other cities are not nearly as far along that path as Detroit, although the public pension plans are surely a nightmare in every large city and some not so large.
