Agnico-Eagle (AEM). The gold miner reported a quarterly loss as a partial writedown of the value of its Meadowbank mine in the Canadian Arctic offset gains from a surge in the price of gold. The company said its board approved a 25 percent increase in its quarterly dividend. On a net basis, Agnico-Eagle reported fourth-quarter net loss of $601.4 million, or $3.53 a share. It expects its 2012 gold production to be in the range of 875,000 ounces to 950,000 ounces.

Barrick Gold (ABX). The gold miner said its operating profit rose 15 percent, as a sharp increase in bullion prices and higher copper sales volumes lifted earnings. Excluding an impairment charge on certain redundant power assets, an investment portfolio write-down and certain other one-time items, the company earned $1.17 billion, or $1.17 a share in the quarter ended Dec. 31. That compared with a year-ago profit of $1.02 billion, or $1.02 a share.

Goldcorp (G). The gold miner reported a 23 percent increase in its operating profit on Wednesday, topping expectations as sharp gains in the price of bullion drove earnings growth in the quarter. After excluding impairment charges related to equity investments, certain non-cash revisions in mine-closure costs and other one-time items, the company reported fourth-quarter earnings of $531 million, or 66 cents a share, up from a year-earlier profit of $431 million, or 59 cents a share.

Kinross Gold (K). The gold miner reported an operating profit that fell short of expectations on Wednesday, as weaker than expected sales and higher than expected costs weighed in the quarter and offset gains from a surge in the price of bullion. Excluding the charge and other one-time items, the company reported a profit of $196.6 million, or 17 cents a share in the fourth-quarter. Analysts, on average, had forecast earnings of 21 cents a share.
