Yes but do the authorities which regulate shorts, have a different set of rules per exchange? Can an entity be forced to settle in 3 days on the AMEX yet be able to extend a short position much longer on the TSX, either legally or via the insider buddy life support system or via short positions shunted to offshore "phoney baloney" ghost corporations ala Enron... with new shorts shunted to new fake corps, betwen exiting PB corps(es) (sic!) and "closing out" existing shorts by declaring bankruptcy of the entities ? No question in my mind Shorty(s) will take advantage of any and all loopholes possible, just like they have been for so long on so many stocks on so many exchanges, regardless "of the rules." For example, legally a sub-par $5 stock can't be shorted but there have been several examples provided by posters on this forum on how the rules can be bent. What if NewGold trades on the Frankfurt exchange then it's back to monkey business as usual? The lack of an uptick rule also simplifies the process of clsong out an existing short only to open a new one just as quickly. So many sick cynical possibilities out there to extend a short it makes me stomach turn about.
