It is pretty evident that the shorts are “stuffing” the offers and containing the price range in order to discourage bidders from attempting to drive upward momentum.
Yet, the shorts don’t really want to sell/short anymore stock.
Otherwise, we would have greater pressure on the bids throughout the day and the stock would probably be down 3-4 cents today.
This forces other sellers to come down and hit their bids at .92 (where the stock sat most of the day on 790,000 shares traded--TSX), allowing the shorts to cover.
ECU closed unchanged with ITG buying 15,000 at .93 on the close, probably another short cover.
