A report on 5/29 was issued by Comtex SmarTrend indicating the official level of short interest existing for ECU. This refers to the above-board number of shares which are legally borrowed and sold short. The number is extremely small.
However, anyone who follows ECU on a daily basis knows that this number is dwarfed by the illicitly illegal naked-short figure. Some entity(s) trading through CIBC, Jitney, Anon, Penson, and perhaps RBC has suppressed ECU for months/years to the tune of a quantity I estimate to be 20-25 million shares.
That level of naked-short shares will provide fireworks to the stock when they are covered amidst a return to the postive psychology of ECU as progressive developments of the company occur.
