There was a tv programme released here in the UK yesterday, it's a Sunday night spot about farming. They were discussing the farmers use of the Comex futures market to sell forward production of grain, to secure prices and reduce risk in the event of future harmful weather conditions. There is great concern in government , that speculators are jumping on these contracts once they are released, and concentrating or manipulating the effect of the contract. The effect being a rise in the price of food beyond what would be expected due to weather conditions or rising buying interest from wealther people around the world.
The insinuation is that governments are going to get involved, especially in food trading because of the havoc it's creating among the worlds poor who already spend 80% of their income on food, and cannot sustain further rises.
