Edgy,
All you say is true. But part of the US technological advantage has diapered because of poor education. The expectations of the parents are below average. Many students that would have left school for work decades ago are still in the class rooms in high school creating a warehousing situation instead of a learning enviroment.
The competition for the short attention spans of the students is mind boggling. I would like the PTA to come out with guidelines for how much TV/ computer games a student should have each week.
Vouchers for private schools are not the answer. Most of them perform about the same as public schools and leave the public system with the problem students.
I agree that we need to invest in technology. But that is a many sided coin. We educate thousands of foreign students in our universities and then force them to go home. They are not allowed to stay in the US and work, so they go home and compete against us.
The Federal budgets are bleeding red ink...but they will not cut agricultural subsidies...or the tax breaks for the Oil industry or slow military spending. This money could be used to invest in tech.
I'm also not sure the Republicans would allow Obama to have a jobs bill victory. They filibustered almost everything in the last congress and the current Republican house ran on jobs and still hasn't offered a jobs bill.
In my opinion the US is in the throws of a multi decade financial funk (that started with the tech crash) that will not reach a bottom for many years. It may end up being like the Japanese lost decade....maybe we will start to climb out of it around 2020.
But the end of the financial funk will depend on when we really hit bottom. 2015-2017??
Then we will be able to see to the other side of the mess we are in.
But to throw out platitudes about Obama and say he should do this or do that when the problem has been building since the Fed was created in 1913, just doesn't have a basis in reality or fact.
