I don't think we differ that much.
The difference is that in my opinion creating something from nothing may also incur external costs (to the environment) that are often not recognized, but are real costs. When you see that nowadays our overfishing threathens the stock of fish we are fishing from, you must agree that some supra-national government has to say: Stop!
The Japanese believe they can continue to fish Blue Tuna the way they have been fishing it. However, that will lead to depletion on a planetarian scale.
We are reaching the limits of our planet. So we need planetarean planning, whether we like it or not.
