For bringing us much of the whole healthcare drama into a nice, compact microcosm. There you have it, dislikers of the left and dislikers of the right, "working" together for a better United States.
I do believe that covering the 40 million or so US citizens that do not have health insurance is a good thing. And I don't mind those making over $250,000 paying more than others for it. But all the horse trading that went on to get the bill passed was just politics as usual (just way more on display than usual), which Obama promised to change. The Office of the President may be changing him.
Healthcare in general is heading quickly in a bad direction; for the most part, the care is quite excellent here, but the costs are out of control, and insurance companies, although the most popular scapegoat, are not the root of it. Too many people getting too much stuff for nothing (not at all talking about those in real need), too many irresponsible people, too many unproductive people, too many entitled people. Healthcare is heading right into the abyss of the baby boomer generation. Meaningful solutions are not plentiful to such monumental issues.
