I was rooting for my US girls, but the Canadians were too tough today. It seemed evident even early on that the Canadian goalie was going to be tough to beat. And she was, and was the Canadian star for half to two thirds of the game, but from there on, it just seemed as though the rest of the team got so good playing with the lead, that the US did not have many quality chances. I thought the two teams were very well matched, except in goal, with a critical edge to the Canadians.
Perhaps the US men can beat Finland tomorrow and set up a rematch with the Canadian men, who are finally together and should win tomorrow. Have to admit, I would rather have played the Russians or any team other than Canada again, but for now, I only am looking at having that chance by beating Finland, which has a lot of good players.
Team Canada reminds me of a laser beam, when the beam is operating properly, with all light in phase, they are so powerful, but against the Swiss and the US, the beam was not in phase. I think it happens when you have all such good players - they are not used to playing with each other. Of course, pulling Marty was a must, he did not look at all good against the US. And Doughty is acquiting himself beautifully, and has had a great season for the Kings so far.
Miller's been hot, he's the US's best hope in the next two games - gold, silver, bronze or nothing - all still out there!
Good luck!
