I agree with everything you say. I suppose that an important reason for us not accepting/willing to understand the notion that human beings are part of nature and its laws, is that that would mean that we acknowledge that we are not as important as we think we are and would have to behave in a much humbler way.

Humans being humble by conviction is a rare phenomenon, at least in the West. I am also wondering what effect it would have on capitalism if the human specie would accept the idea of being part of/dependent on nature and lose part of his/her agressiveness. For a long time I thought that India could not progress materially (only spiritually) due to the hindu religion, which is not as compatible with the capitalist notion of "survival of the fittest" as some other religions.

The day we all become independent thinkers, we will have lost our animal spirit and probably get extinguished as a specie. That would be bad for us, but not necessarily for this planet.
