I know the Post as a conservative paper along with the Globe & Mail, representing mostly big business.
Canada does not use the 'Republican' label. We have small c near center conservatives for whom on occasion I voted and big C Conservatives (equivalent to US Republicans) from which our prime minister Harper comes from and I will never vote for.
We have a Liberal party considered middle of the road, New Democrats who are mild socialists and finally Greens. Many more but too small to be considered.
Characterizations are based on the prejudices of the individual making them, namely me. I voted in the past for the last three categories, so am laying my prejudice out in front.
Just shift the chracterizations slightly to the left, we canadians are more leftist than US, (i.e. small c as middle, Liberals slightly leftists, Democrats as socialists and Greens are a (leftist?) category unto themselves?).
Hope that more than helps.
