Fort Worth 'tea party' planned to protest billions in stimulus spending
It’s a far cry from Colonial Boston, but supporters say the rebellious climate is similar.
Conservative activists are planning "tea party" rallies in cities around the country Friday to protest the billions of dollars the federal government is allocating to counter the recession.
Mark Frimmel is planning a rally from 3 to 7 p.m. at Cowtown Sports Bar & Grill, 7108 Camp Bowie Blvd. in Fort Worth. The 51-year-old Fort Worth resident said he’s heard from people across the state planning to attend.
"This is getting bigger than I imagined," said Frimmel, who, like other activists, was inspired to plan the event after CNBC anchor Rick Santelli slammed the Obama administration’s fiscal policy in an on-air tirade last week.
While the rally will be peaceful, Frimmel said, "We’re going to demonstrate our distrust for the government overspending . . . and the policies they are forcing upon us."
Tarrant County Republican Party Chairwoman Stephanie Klick said she’s heard from many Republicans and even a few Democrats expressing interest in attending the grassroots event "The spending thing has really gotten people riled up," she said.
Frimmel thinks Friday’s event will be just the beginning.
"I think this whole thing is going to culminate into a July Fourth Tea Party in Washington," he said. "People are getting pretty mad out there."

Seems like these "Tea Parties" are cropping up all over.
Maybe Obama has inadvertently succeeded in doing what Ron Paul tried to start - A Revolution.
Good Luck to all!
