The US Senate has scheduled a vote for Monday to confirm Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary. In the meantime, as has been pointed out elsewhere, there's no one in charge of the Exchange Stabilization Fund. Only the Secretary runs it. So if the ESF has been in the habit of capping gold before, they're not doing it now 'cause no one is in charge. They have the authority to "deal in gold."
If gold tanks shortly after Geithner is confirmed, then we bugs will have something else to howl about.
