Though its wonderful to see such a surge in price, the only thing that struck me too was Why? In the many years I've held ECU, I don't remember many, if any, days with this kind of move in percentages or actually cents. Especially when ECU seemed to be alone amongst all the juniors. Most unusual.
Going back over the days trading, there was Anonymous executing some sort of computer smoke job on the stock buying 500 share blocks one after another. I counted over 60 Anonymous 500-share trades this way and gave up counting 'cause there were a lot more. What's that all about? What's the point, since everyone sees what's going on. Doesn't this sort of finagling show red and jingle some bells on the regulators' screens?
Of course, UBS was also very active today and quit buying around 3:25. Then with just 7 seconds left in the trading day, 7 seconds, UBS buys around 50k and gooses the stock 11 cents. As if to put icing on the cake. Anyway, there's another one. What was that trade all about? Why at the closing? If they bought earlier, they could've gotten a better price. Pre-planned perhaps? Maybe trigger some of the momo traders' black boxes? Whatever the reason, I hope the move is sustainable with some extra-positive news to back it up.
By the way, I wonder if UBS is connected to UBS Swiss Bank, which I believe is the biggest bank in Switzerland. They've taken such unexpected heavy losses for being such a stodgy old-line Swiss bank, that shareholders, a lot of them old-timers, were not only blind-sided but now seem ready to riot. A 6 billion Swiss Franc bail-out apparently is not enough. They're in big trouble. A shareholders' meeting this Thursday, its 4th this year, will probably require some extra heavy security, since the last one, as I understand it, almost got out of hand.
