Hitachi Maxell Announces Revision of Prices for Silver Oxide Batteries |
Tokyo, September 4, 2008 --- Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. (TSE/OSE: 6810) today announced that it will respond to hikes in raw material prices by increasing shipping prices of silver oxide batteries from October 1, 2008, for corporations and agencies that have not concluded price contracts linked to the market prices of silver and other metals.
In response to hikes in the price of silver, the main raw material of silver oxide batteries, the Company revised product prices in April 2006. Since then, however, silver prices have risen to even higher levels and remained there due to such factors as increased investment in financial product transactions.
Amid those conditions, the Company has continuously improved productivity and rationalized through reductions of management costs and other efforts. However, it has become difficult to absorb recent dramatic increases in raw material prices solely through the Company's efforts. Therefore, the Company has decided to revise prices for silver oxide batteries.
Going forward, the Company will continue cost reduction efforts and step up efforts to ensure continuous and stable provision of products that satisfy customers. We would like to ask for the understanding of all parties concerned.
1. Price revision details The Company will increase the shipping prices of silver oxide batteries to reflect the market prices of silver and other metals.
2. Implementation period From October 1, 2008 |
