I still do not feel that there is any coupling between gold and oil. What coupling there may be is in oil profits being converted into precious metal assets globally and probably sureptitiously.
There is definitely a perceived coupling. This is due to the dollar. Both are priced in US dollars and therefore when it goes up and down, oil and gold often moved in the opposite direction in tandem. The recent bash of the gold and silver prices while oil rose has put a kink even in the perceived coupling.

I'm more in the PMs due to long term outlook and expect oil to drop over the next few months even with ever depreciating US dollar. Am very disapointed with the Looney being kept even with the Buck.
Ohhh well.
