It definitely seems normal for a Chinese mining giant to open an office in small and distant Toronto, Canada. No doubt China's large delegation sent to PDAC recently was sufficiently impressed with the menu otherwise they would not bother with this new settlement. Do not concern yourself with the Mayor's comments because he is totally irrelevant.

Toronto Mayor David Miller today touted the decision of a giant Chinese mining firm to set up an office in Toronto as proof of the city's importance in the industry.
Economic development officials for the city have been working with Jinchuan Group Ltd. for about a year to lure China's largest producer of nickel and cobalt here.
"The TSX is the world leader in mining finance. And if Toronto is going to succeed in the future as a financial services centre, it needs to be stronger globally," Miller told reporters today during a conference call.
"We have significant expertise in the financing of the mining industry in our city," he said. "The opening of this office, it sends a very strong statement that these links are becoming more permanent.
"Noting concerns that some of Canada's companies like Stelco, Alcan and Inco have been taken over by foreign firms, the mayor said it's better that this Chinese firm is setting up an office and not taking over an existing Canadian company.
