As you have noted, there have been interesting observations made about Australia lately.  For one thing, they have recently raised interest rates while most western central banks have lowered or kept them even.  They also seem to be more open on derivative losses unlike the West where these matters are buried into deep storage.  So it might be possible that Australia is moving away from the West and possibly joining the Chinese sphere of influence.  Not a huge shock considering China is their biggest customer.  Even Australia's media has been more than forthcoming with the current financial disaster.  Unlike former PM John Howard, new PM Rudd does seem to be changing Australia's future direction.
