Just a headsup that the TSX will be closed Feb. 18 for Family Day in Ontario. Family Days are being legislated by Canadian provinces - they seem to represent an easy way for the ruling party to gain brownie points with the general electoral population. Employers object strenuously because they have to pick up the tab for the governments' generosity but their lack of voting numbers means they receive no sympathy. Employees welcome the long weekend break in mid-winter. Teachers' unions declare a two day convention or some other reason for Thursday and Friday off and voila - a five day weekend. The ski hill operators are loving it.
