I do not have any decent answer for you, except that on occasion people (even insiders ) sell because of need. I was just listening to CBC and they were talking about the comming 'super tuesday' and the opinions of folks in California. The common theme was that many are in dire straights with regard to home ownership and perhaps the seller you refer to may have been from the States in similar sutuation.

By the way;
I expected the Looney to dip just after Christmas to about 0.90US and throughout January to be about 0.95, due to canadisn travelers to US south and Carribean. Obviously I was off by five cents.
I expect the Looney to dip again in late february because there will be a fresh influx of travelers south for the breaks. Conversely I would guess that it will recover in late march and I would not be surprised if it goes again to 1.10US in April.
I am no currency whizz but just basing my opinion of watching the exchange rate during winters for over 20 years (Used to visit Daytona, often bike week ).
If your in the States, that should give you a bonus during those times with ECU.
