Saskatchewan's SECRET Gold Mining Development.

When did the present recession start? Reading the Globe & Mail this morning, you would think there was room for optimistic pretences, at the very least.

Either Nowandfutures haven't updated their recession prediction to reflect a rate hike against a decline in 10-year bond rates, or money supply is actually increasing:

$IRX Weekly
The one place to look would be short term interest rates. The stock market has not made historic new highs, despite the entire effort of jawboning and rate hikes to accommodate higher rates in the short term.
You would not discount a rally in the stock market Indeces, though a currency debacle seems to be the route that regulators would rather deal with in the eventuality, than a stock market blowout.
By flooding the markets with treasury bills, you may be able to obtain rates that look better, but if this strategy fails to sterilize, then a drastic drop in the currency may occur.
Deflation was not so mean as to take out the lows, but capitulated and bounced back in oil prices. That means there's very strong inflation, should oil prices keep their value in the face the most dire demand concern. Or is that an oversupply of supply statistics?
Or perhaps it means a drastic drop in purchasing power.
$Gold Weekly
The gold price in $US has maintained its composure in what has to be one of the most blow-dried, made-up, hairbrained schemes. Wall St. saw the currency as absolute and unchangeable, but did not calculate on the change in size of commodities markets like oil. Gold has to be benefitting from the same mistaken apprehension that dollar values are absolute, since the gold market has grown appreciably.
If the market has grown appreciably, while currency is regarded without adjustment, then the commodities derivatives have a serious error in them.
