Saskatchewan's SECRET Gold Mining Development.
Using Bing Maps aerial photos to compare tailings management facilities gives you some idea as to what the size of the Laronge Gold Project will be.
Integra is only the fourth operator of the Lamaque Mine since the bull market in gold began. Mcwaters, Century, White Tiger and now Integra are having a kick at the can. One of the board members for Golden Band is from White Tiger.
Lamaque is one of Canada's senior gold mines, with decades of service, while all of Golden Band's operations start at surface.
A new feature in Bing Maps' 'Bird's Eye View' is a rotational arrow beside the compass, which will let let you spin the aerial photo around.
Lamaque
Mallard TMF
My guess is since The Mallard TMF is formed by two ridges on either side of Mallard Lake, the tailings can probably hold as much as Lamaque, which is above ground and spread out more. That means a very big, long term operation. They will begin with a small above ground facility for the first phase, which is already complete. Deep drilling of the basement rock of the Decade Mine must be done near the above ground before expansion. Then, they intend to drain Mallard Lake for the clean up of mercury deposited in the lake during a former mining operation in the 70's. Once that's completed an open pit mine in the lake bed to provide ore from deposits that run under the lake will be started. Waste rock from the open pit of the former Mallard Lake lake bed will provide the necessary material to expand the tailings with huge berms at either end of the lake, running between the ridges.
