The Mallard Lake Tailings Management Facility is situated between two ridges, which merely require that either end be blocked off with a berm, in order to greatly expand the capacity. I think this is what's intended by the line cutting in this area. They will be taking out the top of that part of the Decade deposit that runs under the lake, before expanding the facility:
