That's funny, I thought the gold price was the alarm bell.
If you will remember correctly, the 73/74 bear market began in January on declines in the UK market. There was also a bear market with the onset of negative nominal rates in 1938, after economic stimulus was withdrawn in the U.S.
From my point of view, Carney's role in the UK central bank is probably as an economic hit man.
