I put together a daily gold chart with the volatility smile drawn in. As you can see, a daily log scale chart is not much different than a weekly nominal scale chart, since daily changes are incremental, except for days with high volatility.

I find the weekly nominal scale chart works best in attempting to draw in the Smile.
