The one dispute I would have with this article is choosing the wrong chart to make your case. You would not throw gold mining companies in with the venture exchange, you would instead compare them with the S&P TSX Global Gold Index.
While your venture exchange listed gold company might not be listed on the TSX, share prices aught to compare with this index.
If you were concerned about your copper explorer or oil exploration, then the venture exchange is what you would use for comparison. The SPTGD does not include silver mining exploration companies and venture exchange listed silver producers:

My guess has long been that gold mining shares should break out against gold in a short covering rally, much as they have in 2001 - 2002 only to be exceeded once again by gold. Gold mining companies should perform after the mania phase in gold, which is presumed to be in 2013 - 2015.
Presumaby they would have gotten over themselves and got down to business.
