The following monthly chart shows the entire transit of the CDNX Venture Exchange since inception.

Very likely the next downturn will bring an historic low in this indece, as the head & shoulders formation is projection a low of ~300.

That means if your stock is listed on this exchange, then it will likely be dragged down along with everything else.

I would think in this scenario that a company able to pay out dividends will do so, if only to change the assumptions of the Black Scholes option pricing model, which introduces arbitrage risk in the stock price.

The stock would have to be priced in forward earnings, rather than trailing earnings and likely index more strongly with the gold price. Whether the gold price will advance in a declining stock scenario is open to question.
