The following note on Jaguar Mining and its inability to produce a profit makes the company withdraw from any acquisitions they might be considering.

Now, this sounds totally familiar. The reverse corollary is that if you make it appear that your company is operating in penury or having operational difficulties, then a potential hostile buyer would reconsider.
