Trans Hudson Orogen
Most people might assume that greenstone belts only occur in the Superior province, along various gold belts, and that the La Ronge Gold Belt is part of this structure.
But the truth is that the La Ronge Gold belt is situated in the elbow of the Trans-Hudson Orogen, the northern portion of the same province that hosted the Lead, South Dakota mine. This mine is known as the Homestake Mine, that operated for over 100 years.
There are greenstone type deposits in the La Ronge Gold Belt in the 'quartz-tourmaline-carbonate' or gold porphyry deposits in the Trans-Hudson Orogen, but there are also flat-lying gold reefs with different base metal indicator minerals than molydenum.
The base metal indicator of the Homestake Mine is copper, rather than a greenstone deposit. By no strange co-incidence, the presumed gold reef in the La Ronge Gold Belt also has copper as an indicator mineral. But they say the gold reef type of deposit with copper is more like the deposits in South Africa, rather than South Dakota. I wonder who is right.
