Saskatchewan's SECRET Gold Mining Development.
Golden Band Resources has a new vice-president and CFO.
Mark Thiel stepped into the role of vice-president of finance and administration and chief financial officer of the Saskatoon company on April 1. Thiel, a chartered accountant, will also assume the position of Golden Band's corporate secretary.
The new executive has extensive experience with the mining industry, working for 12 years in a variety of roles at Cameco Corp., including four years as the vice-president of finance at the Kumtor gold mine in the Kyrgyz Republic and, most recently, as the company's corporate treasurer.
Thiel's addition to the Golden Band team, however, isn't the only change at the company. Frank Hrdy resigned as vice-president exploration as of March 31 to pursue another opportunity.
Klaus Lehnert-Thiel, Charles Harper and Ronald Netolitzky will direct exploration for the company on an interim basis.
Additionally, Golden Band's former CEO, Rodney Orr, has agreed to provide consulting services to the company, primarily regarding external relations and regulatory affairs.
Note: One thing I hadn't paid much attention to is the corporate appointments. If you're feeling a sincere sense of total frustration with the company, then you're not taking crazy pills. The resignations come at a very odd time and is especially unlikeable considering how many stock options were handed out.
The Kumtor mine is run by Centerra(CG.TO), the offshoot gold company from Cameco, and I had often pointed out that its very possible that Centerra (CG.TO) would be the natural buyer for GBN.V.
GBN.V had taken over property formerly part of a joint venture with Cameco, and must under agreement keep Cameco a 3% parter every time they issue shares.
Looking at the lowball offer Osisko(OSK.TO) made for Brett Resources(BBR.V), my feeling on that is Centerra may be preparing a lowball offer for GBN.V.
It would be important for shareholders to review the Edison report, and consider that the gold price is higher now since that report was issued.
