Lowest-cost, fastest growing senior gold producer.
TICKER: NYSE:GG;TSX:G
DESCRIPTION: Goldcorp is now the world's lowest-cost, million-ounce gold producer. The acquisition of Wheaton River Minerals Ltd. has increased gold production, gold reserves and resources and given the company one of the fastest growth curves in the industry. It has strengthened Goldcorp's already solid balance sheet and lowered production costs per ounce even further. Goldcorp is in excellent financial condition. It has no debt, a large treasury, strong cash flow and earnings and pays a dividend 12 times per year. Goldcorp is completely unhedged.

"Goldcorp is the preferred premium-rated large-cap growth gold stock. Recent acquisitions solidify its growth platform. A stellar reputation for project execution is currently on display with the ramp-up of the Peñasquito mine. Goldcorp trades at a healthy premium to many of its peers on a P/NPV basis, which is justified by its growth profile and excellent management team."

"Strong operations, growth, political risk and balance sheet make GG top producer Goldcorp (GG, NY, 38.85) is the owner of the large Penasquito (see above). Beyond that, there are several other large-scale projects in the pipeline: Pueblo Viejo, the world-class property in the Dominican Republic it owns (40%) with Barrick, on track for an end-2011 start-up; El Moro, a gold and copper project recently acquired from New gold; and Eleonore, the Quebec property which Virginia sold, where resources recently doubled (to over 9 million ounces) and startup is still scheduled for 2015. Thus, the company has tremendous organic growth ahead of it, which maintains its very low political risk profile; currently 85% of production is in North America.
Operations are all strong, with the possible temporary exception of the flagship Red Lake, where grades are declining and access to a new high-grade part of the deposit is moving a little slower than anticipated. The balance sheet is also solid, with zero net debt and a credit line available, as well as $1.2 billion in annual cash flow.
We continue to like Goldcorp as the best of the major producers."

"I own and am fond of Goldcorp. Goldcorp is my number-one pick and it's way undervalued. It does puzzle me, but I've learned that the markets have a way of evening things up. At $38, it's way too cheap. They produced 90,000 ounces of gold in 2009 and a million ounces of silver. They dedicated their mine in Peñasquito on March 23rd. This is going to be one of the biggest open-pit mines in the Americas."

"The Goldcorp story just keeps getting better. It is my number one pick (and holding) in the Legacy Discovery gold and precious metals space. In the fourth quarter, Goldcorp reported production of 601,300 ounces of gold at a cash cost of $289 per ounce. The company is generating $1.5 billion in cash flow per year (on average for the next five years), pays a dividend and has almost $900 million in cash on the balance sheet. Last year, Goldcorp produced 2.42 million ounces of gold at a cash cost of $295 per ounce. More important, just take a look at the relative growth to average cost position of Goldcorp to its peer group of gold producers."

TGR: What about consolidation plays? Do you think the time is right for that?
JE: I think the big problem is that the guys that head up some of these gold companies don't have the confidence in their own product that they should have. As a result, they're reluctant to pull the trigger on acquisitions that to me would be brilliant at this stage in time. We've seen some activity, as you mentioned, in Mexico. I know Goldcorp has been picking up a few around its big silver play down there. And I think that's a great move. My attitude is that these guys, without exception, all have long-term reserve issues. If there's ever been a better time, based on my outlook for where all this is going, to pick them up, I can't think of one. These guys should be looking for anything that's real and using their paper right now to buy it.
