New Solar Cell
Dr Ten BV, GiraSolar B.V. (www.girasolar.nl), and TU Delft have joined forces to find a completely new, cheap and clean route from sand to solar cell. Current chemical routes have been developed for silicon chip technology. But this route appears unnecessarily cumbersome and expensive for making silicon which will be used for solar cells. The solar cell market is becoming mature enough to merit a separate silicon production route. The idea is to use African sand as source, given the properties this sand has. This project follows a highly successful start up project in 2006 and may lead to a major breakthrough not only in silicon processing and cheap photovoltaic energy but in development of African sources and recourses as well. GiraSolar B.V. is a company in sales and future production of solar cells.

New Fuel Battery
Dr Ten B.V. (www.drten.nl), GiraSolar BV, Triacon BV and TU Delft have joined forces to find a completely new route to store solar energy and to convert it to heat and fuel. Not conventional batteries, hydrogen or hydrocarbons are used as storage or fuel medium but a new clean chemical compound that is obtained by direct electrochemical conversion of solar electricity. Upon conversion of this compound large amounts of heat and electricity are released which can be conducted to the grid or used in gas turbines, fuel cells. The new battery particularly seems interesting to store solar energy but it is the goal of this project is to practically evaluate different scenarios in product, process and market development. The feasibility study enables the team to set a new springboard for a breakthrough in renewable energy processing. More details will be given upon assignment.
