A Need and a Solution

In May 2008, two seasoned entrepreneurs discussed the current state of the Biofuels industry over a glass of wine.

They were perplexed. Here was a high profile, multi-billion dollar, government-subsidized industry seemingly unlimited in growth potential and importance. Yet, it was an industry lacking in any coordinated structure that would allow for efficient pricing, distribution and/or standardized product information.

These two entrepreneurs were Tom Gray and James Kaufman. Gray, a Cleantech innovator and former President and current CFO of Gray Oil, with over 25 years’ experience marketing Biofuels, and Kaufman, a veteran consultant to small and micro-cap companies and an expert in vertical websites and proprietary internet platform design, immediately began sketching the framework of an internet-based Biofuels exchange.

Within a matter of hours, the framework for The US-BX, the US Biofuels Exchange, was completed and a beacon to the Biofuels industry illuminated.

Building the Team

Gray and Kaufman believe that the ultimate success of The US-BX will come from the strength of its team coupled with the input of industry participants.

Gray brings a network of real Biofuel industry experts and veterans, including: Biofuel Producers, Brokers, Distributors, Buyers and Marketers (resellers). Many of these veterans have already invested their own money and time in The US-BX and all have contributed valuable insight and expertise to the project.

Kaufman brings a Fortune 500 software expert to build a dynamic, proprietary trading platform and an unyielding commitment to the long-term success and evolution of The US-BX. Next, Kaufman brought in a respected Boulder, Colorado-based web design firm to create a high-profile, “green-themed” website powered exclusively by solar energy.

Gray and Kaufman continue to seek additional board members for The US-BX, as well as strategic alliances and other beneficial relationships.

Designing the Proprietary Trading Platform

The US-BX proprietary trading platform design is based on real-life experiences of real Biofuels industry professionals with decades of experience in buying, selling and trading hundreds of millions of gallons of Biofuels. Their frustrations with the unreliability of the Biofuels markets have been heard and the features they demanded have been included in the US-BX proprietary trading platform. And, the US-BX will continue to listen to these industry veterans.

The US-BX is to be used by Biofuel producers to expand their customer bases by creating a more efficient pricing system supported by a efficient matching of producers to users and resellers. Similarly, Biofuels buyers will use The US-BX to complement their purchasing departments, while Biofuels brokers and traders will employ The US-BX as an innovative business tool.

For The US-BX to become and remain the hub of the Biofuels industry, it must be, and it will be:

Fair and Trusted – Biofuel Producers, Brokers, Distributors, Buyers and Marketers (resellers) will be treated equally and fairly. A rating system will be established and only members in good standing will be allowed to trade on The US-BX. The US-BX must remain free of manipulation, with all trades monitored and disputes investigated.

Flexible and Dynamic – The US-BX will be flexible and able to adapt to new and changing Biofuels, Biofuels standards and Biofuels-related products. The US-BX will keep both Buyer and Seller completely informed of all current information and nuances of this evolving and growing industry.

A Valuable Tool – Whether a Biofuel Producer, Broker, Distributor, Buyer or Marketer (reseller), The US-BX is the destination to compare Biofuel prices and availability, access transaction histories and stay current with real time US-BX and Biofuels industry news, information and announcements.

Scalable – The US-BX will be able to expand to worldwide transactions, as well as incorporate other related services, such as transportation, etc.

User Driven – User feedback is welcomed, listened to and, when necessary, acted upon. The US-BX have been designed by Biofuels marketing experts and they are committed to serving US-BX users.
